Private Security Scope in Asia

The use of private security services is growing as does the population in the countries that comprise Asia.

“International law has been reluctant to respond to the rise in the need for human society, and the potential for human security as a normative framework.”

With this reluctance the ability for areas such as global maritime security to be taken in professionally by private security companies exist, which are growing exponentially.

“The growth of the private security industry in the nations of Asia is set to expand for the following reasons:
1) With the changing field of technology in electronic surveillance, it
becomes cheaper and more cost-effective for private rather than public solutions to security
issues.
2) “In 2006 there were 4 million private security officers working for companies that were monitored by the Chinese public security bureau’s.”

It offers a large and growing opportunity for the private security industry as a whole. There is new research that shows that

“effective institutions may lessen violent responses”,

which would assist the countries of Asia in meeting social needs without a costly governmental response. Given the ability for security companies to meet the gap professionally, with advanced training internally, the use of new technology and practices would allow for social trust to be built. It has been shown that

“social trust shapes how a citizen thinks about territorial disputes, and influences public opinion favored by the public.”

For private security companies, there is a large opportunity if the bar of professional, non-biased, security management can be a new growth norm for Asian nations and communities facing these growth factors in non-state actors’ attempts at violence and disruption of civil society. In short for the private security company willing to go above and beyond in training, equipment, technology, and use of force practices the potential for financial growth is huge.
